Balão Mágico biography discography gallery video boy singer music album A Turma do Balão Mágico was a popular children's band in the early to mid eighties. They had their own television program on which many wellknown adult singers appeared, some of which recorded songs with the band including: Djavan, Roberto Carlos, Baby Consuelo. Erasmo Carlos, Pepeu Gomes, Dominó and Fabio Jr. There were around twelve children involved in the TV programmes of which three or four were chosen to solo on the LPs which were on the CBS label. Amongst the initial formation were Mickey (son of the Great Train Robber, Ronnie Biggs), Jairzinho, Simony, Tob and Ricardinho. They released their first LP (A) in 1982 which was so successful they were able to record two more the following year. Their most succesful songs were Superfantástico, Amigos do Peito and Linda Balão Azul. They released an LP (D) in 1985 but this was less succesful and led the producers to thinking that the children needed to be replaced with younger ones. Jaizinho and Simony went on to record a record together which was very succesful and is dealt with separately on this site. They also recorded one more Balão Mágico LP for the TV station's own record label 'Somlivre' in 1986. All these records were produced by Mauro Motta. In 1988 the new 'Novo Turma do Balão Mágico' was launched (F) with one boy and two girls. It was not succesful although they were able to record another album (G) in 1990. These two albums were produced by Carlão.Brasil Brazil Balão Mágico also released a compilation LP of their best hits. In 2002 Balão Mágico were relaunched again with new members. This is dealt with on a separate web page. At the time of their relaunch it wasd announced that the original recordings would be re-released in CD format but I have never seen any in the shops.
